Magnetic Fields x Photographing the Female
We teamed up with contemporary music and arts festival Magnetic Fields for a very special project involving 14 girls and women of Alsisar village in Rajasthan, India. Magnetic Fields is held every year at Alsisar Mahal, a palace located in Alsisar in the desert state Rajasthan in North India. It had been a longstanding ambition of MF team to help break down some of the cultural barriers between the festival goers and the local villagers.
With this in mind we conceptualised an integrated photo workshop and exhibition aimed at giving the girls and women a chance to engage with the arts and tell their own stories through the photographic medium. The women were given disposable cameras with which they could freely explore their everyday lives. We only encouraged them to reflect on what was important to them in their lives and how it was possible to photograph that. PtF founder Sarah Høilund took portraits of all 14 girls and women to be exhibited along with the photographs taken by the participants.
